Position Statement
INFORMS has long been the centerpiece of my professional life. I care deeply about its past and its future, and I would be honored to serve as Vice President of Marketing, Communications, and Outreach.
If elected, I will continue to support INFORMS many ongoing outreach efforts while placing a special emphasis on analytics. The term resonates with businesses and has already raised the awareness of INFORMS in nontraditional areas. INFORMS electronic publication Analytics is experiencing rapid readership growth, and the INFORMS Conference on Business Analytics and Operations Research, after adding “business analytics” to its title this year, saw a huge jump in attendance.
Businesses are increasingly aware of the importance of using data for decision making. They are also aware of the need for people with the skills of the INFORMS membership, even though many have never heard of operations research and are not quite sure what management science is. We can promote and secure the vitality of our profession by establishing INFORMS as the thought leader in the highly visible domain of analytics while respecting our proud history.
