INFORMS/ORSA/TIMS Activities

Recently completed second term as Editor-in-Chief of Organization Science (2004-2010) and served as Departmental Editor of Management Science’s Department of Organizational Performance, Strategy, and Design (1995-2003). Served as Chair of the INFORMS College on Organization Science from 1993-1995, Co-organized College of Organization Science Winter Conference in 1995 and 2010. Instituted College of Organization Science Best Dissertation Proposal Award and Workshop in 1991 and served as a faculty panelist. Keynote speaker at Conference on Information Systems and Technology, INFORMS (2006).

Publications

Author of over 50 journal articles and book chapters on organizational learning, innovation, productivity, knowledge transfer, and group performance that have appeared in Management Science, Operations Research, Organization Science Administrative Science Quarterly, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and Science. Her book, Organizational Learning: Creating, Retaining and Transferring Knowledge was a finalist for the Terry Book Award of the Academy of Management in 2000. She was co-editor of special issues of Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes (knowledge transfer in organizations, 2000), Management Science (managing knowledge in organizations, 2003) and Organization Science (A Behavioral Theory of the Firm, 2007).

Other Professional Activities

Served on the boards of Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Engineering and Technology Management, and Journal of Personality and Social Psychology as well as on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Management (2000-2002). Also served on several National Science Foundation (NSF) Review panels and on the Committee of Visitors for the Economics, Decision and Management Science (EDMS) cluster of the NSF.

Position Statement

It is an honor to be nominated for Vice President of Publications. Publications are central to the functioning and identity of INFORMS. They provide vehicles for publishing research findings and disseminating knowledge as well as contribute to the financial health of the society. INFORMS publications have reputations for publishing rigorous, innovative research and are generally regarded as the top journals in their fields.

As the outgoing Editor-in-Chief of Organization Science and a former Departmental Editor at Management Science, I would welcome the opportunity to work with the INFORMS Board, the Editors, the Publications Committee and the INFORMS Director of Publications to promote the quality of INFORMS publications. My priorities would include helping to select and attract leading scholars to serve as Editors-in-Chief of INFORMS journals and supporting them in attracting and developing the best research for publication. I would also work to increase the impact of research published in the journals. In addition, I would collaborate with the publications community at INFORMS to ensure that our delivery methods and business models are on the frontier of best practices. My overall goal would be to maintain and promote the leadership of INFORMS in publishing the best and the most innovative research in operations research and the management sciences.
