Position Statement
These are exciting times in INFORMS. The Annual Meeting continues to be extremely successful, attracting about 4,000. If attendance increases, we’ll consider using the Regional Conferences to offer additional conference opportunities.
The spring meeting was modified to include analytics professionals, fueling a 30 percent increase in attendance in 2011 and 10 this year. We continue to build bridges with our International Conferences. We have over 1,000 abstracts submitted for our conference in Beijing. In 2013 we will host our International Conference jointly with the EURO society. Our first Topical Conference, Healthcare 2011, was a resounding success. We’ll repeat it and examine other opportunities.
Success of our meetings is shown by other organizations leveraging them for their purposes. The POMS held a min‐conference immediately prior to our 2011 Annual Meeting. The Petrochemical Forum held meetings following ours in 2011 and 2012. The Society for Medical Decision Making’s 2012 meeting is being held jointly with us in Phoenix.
These successes are due to the superb members who dedicate their time and expertise, as well as the exceptional professionals we have in the Meetings Department. I have the honor of coordinating these efforts to support our members, our society, and our profession.
