INFORMS  Credentialing Task Force has released the analytics job task analysis outline, which forms the basis of the first exam. Seven domains of practice have been enumerated along with over 35 tasks typically performed by analytics professionals. At this time, supporting knowledge statements are being used to develop items (questions) for the first exam and, as such, are not publicly available. The Task Force anticipates releasing them as part of the CAP Candidate Handbook on INFORMS Online in October 2012. The first CAP exam is scheduled for April 7, 2013 at the INFORMS Conference on Business Analytics and Operations Research in San Antonio, TX. Make your plans now to attend. In last two issues of eNews, we provided the goals that members mention most for joining and staying with INFORMS and the top seven products and services that help members reach these goals. Most members report they are very satisfied with INFORMS and name various goals for joining. We now present how members feel about new concepts that could be pursued. Percentage indicate top two boxes: extremely and very interested.

My subject here is the "analytics initiative" that has earned a high priority with INFORMS and CPMS. Actions resulting so far from the initiative include publishing the online Analytics magazine, renaming and reprogramming the spring practice conference, organizing the new analytics section, and, when it comes to fruition, offering professional certification in analytics. As the topic of analytics rose to prominence, we heard various anxiety provoking questions that still may trouble some of us... Keep reading.
