In Memoriam, Jeremy Shapiro

The INFORMS board, staff, and membership join in extending condolences to the family of veteran operations researcher Jeremy Shapiro. The MIT professor died on April 14; he was 72 years old. Prof. Shapiro served for nine years as codirector of MIT's Operations Research Center. More recently, he had focused on designing and applying modeling systems to analyze real-world decision problems in supply chain management, finance, and marketing. The second edition of his book, Modeling the Supply Chain, was published in 2007. At the time of his death, he was scheduled to speak at the INFORMS Analytics Conference. An obituary appeared in the Boston Globe.
