2008 INFORMS Annual Meeting Panel Discussion: Where Will Fuel Prices Go and How Can OR Help the Airline Industry Respond?
IATA has predicted airline losses of up to $6.1 billion this year at current oil prices. At the 64th Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit in Istanbul, IATA DG and CEO Giovanni Bisignani spoke about an "extraordinary crisis" faced by the airlines brought on by soaring fuel prices and slowing traffic growth. Is there anything that operations research can do? This panel of experts tried to answer this and related questions. The panel was moderated by Stefan Karisch from Jeppesen, and the panelists were as follows:
- Erik Andersson, Jeppesen:
Anderson
- James Bonn, Federal Aviation Administration
- John-Paul Clarke, Georgia Institute of Technology
- John Heimlich, Air Transport Association:
