Announcement for Faculty Positions in the Industrial & Manufacturing Systems Engineering Department, The University of Texas at Arlington

The Industrial & Manufacturing Systems Engineering Department at The University of Texas at Arlington invites applicants for two tenure track faculty positions.

Applicants for the first position will be considered for the rank of Professor or Associate Professor, commensurate with their records in teaching, scholarship, and funded research. The ideal candidate will have (a) an earned Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering or related field; (b) a significant record of scholarship and funded research; (c) a commitment to teaching excellence and to innovation in the continued development of our undergraduate, graduate, and distance education programs; (d) recognized expertise in Systems Engineering; and (e) an interest in providing leadership in the development of our Systems Engineering research program.

Applicants for the second position will be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor. The ideal candidate will have (a) an earned Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering or related field; (b) a commitment to develop a significant record of scholarship and funded research by the time of the tenure decision; (c) a commitment to teaching excellence and to innovation in the continued development of our undergraduate, graduate, and distance education programs; (d) expertise in Manufacturing Systems, Systems Engineering, or Applied Statistics/Operations Research; and (e) an interest in participating in the development of our research programs.

The Department has 10 full time faculty and about 300 students. The Department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Industrial Engineering, an M.S. in Engineering Management, an M.S. in Logistics, and an M.S. in Systems Engineering. Research centers within the Department include the Systems Engineering Research Center, the Center on Stochastic Modeling, Optimization, & Statistics, and the Microfluidics Fabrication Laboratory. Our research and educational programs are rigorous and well respected in the community. Applicants will be expected to take a significant role in academic and research efforts in one or more of these areas.

We are looking for a Senior Operations Analyst, to join our Sampling team located in Columbia, MD

Responsibilities:

  • Works as an integral member of the Sampling Department in a time-critical production environment.
  • Conducts tactical or strategic analyses using advanced mathematical techniques (linear regression, markov chains, survivor analysis, etc.) to address business and customer issues. These analyses must be logical, clear, and succinct.
  • Responsible for creation and maintenance of operational budget models.
  • Queries data from large relational databases for various analyses and/or requests, using Access, TOAD or SQL.
  • Develops Business Intelligence reports on key operational metrics.
  • Uses and modifies predictive models in a database environment to forecast behavioral rates based on trends, external variables, and methodological changes.
  • Designs and uses tools (Excel spreadsheets, Access macros, SQL statements, SAS code, etc.) to predict and monitor sample performance at the survey and/or market level.
  • Serves on various interdepartmental teams seeking to propose, evaluate and implement new initiatives.
  • Help write new software requirements and tests, as an end-user, software changes and new code.
  • Detects, troubleshoots, and resolves data or system anomalies in a time-critical production environment.
  • Identifies and implements enhancements to documented departmental procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in social science, mathematics, statistics, business, or related fields. Graduate degree preferred.
  • 2-4 years experience in at least one of the following fields: statistics, research, business analytics, or economics, preferably in operations.
  • Expertise using Excel as well as Access, Oracle or other relational database software.
  • 2+ years using data analysis software (SAS, Minitab, SPSS, Matlab, R, etc.) with datasets of millions of rows.
  • Strong analytical skills with emphasis in linear regression, markov chains, probability distributions, or related areas.
  • Knowledge of data collection and research methodologies and/or experience with syndicated data preferred.
  • Demonstrated success and effectiveness working in a time-critical production environment.
  • Aptitude to detect, foresee, and troubleshoot data processing anomalies and implement corrective actions.
  • Outstanding organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills, with great attention to detail.
  • Excellent leadership skills and proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong familiarity with SQL and business intelligence platforms.
