Decision Analysis Society

Mailing List

The Society maintains an electronic mailing list (formerly called "DAList") on a mailing list server maintained by INFORMS. The list address is:

decision-analysis-society@list.informs.org

The email list is for announcements of general interest to DAS members. We will ask people posting to the list to cross post their announcements to the discussion board forum as well. You may use the DAS email distribution list to announce the creation of a new thread or topic on the discussion forum, but replies to the email list will be directed to the web forum.

To send a message to the email list, simply send an email to decision-analysis-society@list.informs.org. Submissions to the list will be "moderated", meaning that submissions will be reviewed before they are broadcast to all list members. This should keep spam reaching the list. Only DAS members may subscribe to (i.e., receive messages from) the list, but anyone can send messages to the list. We welcome announcements of general interest, subject to the guidelines below.

The subscriber web page, where members can change their subscription status or preferences and view the archives of the list, is at this address:

http://list.informs.org/mailman/listinfo/decision-analysis-society

Guidelines for submissions:

Possible topics for discussion on the mailing list might include any of the following:

  • Announcements of meetings and calls for papers.
  • Announcements of job openings for decision analysts and decision researchers.
  • Announcements of new working papers, articles, programs, for comment and discussion.
  • Substantive discussion concerning topics such as decision analysis modeling, probability and value assessment, decision analysis software, environmental risk analysis, behavioral decision theory, negotiation and bargaining, to name just a few of the topics of interest to our members.
  • Solicitations for advice on particular questions encountered in research or applications; including, for example, queries like "does anybody know of software that does xxx?" or "what kinds of assessment techniques would you recommend in a problem like xxx?"
  • Comments, questions, and contributions on curriculum questions; suggested texts, cases, new articles of common interest for course-related adoption, etc.
  • Brief "war stories" describing interesting or novel applications.
  • Personal exchanges in the effort to develop a greater sense of community among the subscribers to the list.

Note: To limit the email traffic on the list, the list moderator may request posters to use the DAS Discussion Boards (rather than the email distribution list) to continue a discussion started on the email list.

All emails posted to list must comply with the following criteria:

  • Submitted materials must not be copyrighted;
  • Submissions must be (at least remotely) related to the purposes of the Society as outlined in our bylaws;
  • Basic rules of electronic mail etiquette are expected; e.g., anonymous submissions, character assassination and profanity are strictly prohibited.
