Best Publication Award (for papers published in year 2009, Nomination deadline: April 30th, 2011)
Details: The ENRE Best Publication Awards are given annually to the best refereed journal articles (in the areas of energy and forestry) published two calendar years prior to the year in which the award is given. For the 2011 awards, only articles that were published during the calendar year 2009 can be nominated. The objective of the award is to recognize the contributions of ENRE members to the research areas of Forestry and Energy. Therefore, separate awards will be given in each area, and membership during the year of the nomination will be a requirement for the nominator. Membership for the nominee will not be a requirement. The award will be presented at the INFORMS Annual Meeting of 2011. Nominations will be received until April 30, 2011. Nominated publications will be judged by separate three members committees for each area (Forestry and Energy) with respect to impact and originality. The award will consist of a plaque.
The nomination process consists of sending of a nominationpackage containing:
* A nomination form that will include information on thenominator, nominee, full reference of the article, and the area of nomination: Energy or Forestry
* A copy of the article written in English
There are two ways of nominating an article for an award.
* Self-nomination: One of the authors, who should be a member of the ENRE subdivision at the year of the nomination, may nominate his/her published article. It is acceptable that the work has been published with other authors who are not member of ENRE.
* Work nominated by others: A member of the ENRE subdivision,at the year of the nomination, may nominate an article for an award. In this case, authors need not be members of ENRE.
Consistent with the INFORMS conflict of interest policy, papers written by INFORMS ENRE officers or the competition judges, or by their students will not be considered.
The deadline for nomination for papers published during 2009 is April 30th, 2011.

Student Travel Scholarship
The award is given annually to the best paper dealing with energy, environmental or natural resource issues by a student author who is presenting at the INFORMS Annual Meeting, as judged by a panel of the Energy and Natural Resources and the Environment Section. The award is accompanied by a certificate and a $300 honorarium.
Application Process
Requirements of eligibility for students applying to this year's competition are:
- student who did not complete their Ph.D. prior to May 1, 2010 and
- student will be presenting a talk at the 2011 INFORMS Annual Meeting held in Charlotte, NC.
If you wish to submit an abstract for this year's meeting, please contact Marc McDill at mem14@psu.edu for papers related to forestry, Ramteen Sioshansi at sioshansi.1@osu.edu for papers related to energy, Alexandra Newman at anewman@mines.edu for papers related to mining, or Hayri Önal at h-onal@illinois.edu for papers related to the environment and sustainability.
All students conducting research in or related to energy, mining, sustainability, environmental or natural resource issues (including theory development, applications, optimization, econometrics, simulation) are encouraged to submit a paper. The work must be predominately that of the student, although faculty members or other mentors can be co-authors if appropriate. The paper should be 30 pages or less (double-spaced and 12-point font) and in the standard format of the INFORMS’ journals Management Science or Operations Research.
