• The conference Preferences and Risk '09, organized by Karol Adamiecki Economy Academy in Katowice, Poland (Tadeusz Trzaskalik - chair), March 29-31, 2009, Ustroń, hosted the special session of the INFORMS Polish Chapter.

Three papres were presented:
1. Cezary Dominiak (Economy Academy in Katowice) - Optimization of a queueing system for the amusement park in Chorzów,
2. Paweł Hanczar (University of Economy in Wrocław) - Transport planning under zone tarrifs,
3. Stanisław Kędzierski (BPSC SA - a software provider) - Production scheduling in IMPULS system.
Presence - ca 40, cooperation with Chair of Operations Research, Karol Adamiecki Economy in Katowice, especially with the Head, prof. Tadeusz Trzaskalik, in hosting sessions of the Polish Chapter is greately acknowledged. [posted July 8, 2009]

• On September 19, 10:00am, a joint session of the INFORMS Polish Chapter and the MODEST group will take place. The session is hosted by the conference BOS'08.
  During the session Ms Magda Gajownik, Advisor in the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Poland for Science and Innovation, will deliver a presentation:

  "Technology transfer - how they do this in Great Britain?".

• The conference BOS'08 will host the special session of the INFORMS Polish Chapter.
  Date for the conference: September 18-20, the date for the INFORMS special session will be anounced later.

• Moving Spirit Award for the Secretary of INFORMS Poland Chapter
  Dear Colleagues,
  I am pleased to inform you that our colleague, Ignacy Kaliszewski, has been awarded by Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences with the Moving Spirit Award for his contribution to create in 1994 the Polish Chapter and continuous efforts for the benefit of its members.
  Dr hab. in¿. Ignacy Kaliszewski is the Secretary of INFORMS Polish Chapter. He is a longstanding researcher in the Systems Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences, at present at the position of docent.
  Reacting to this distinction Ignacy Kaliszewski said: ''I accept gladly this Award as a form of acknowledgment of efforts of all Polish Chapter officers to promote The Science of Better''.
