Anna Nagurney Fights Manhattan Traffic
TSL member Anna Nagurney reveals how humankind has wrestled with traffic since the Roman Empire. The solution might lie in an unlikely direction: removing options for drivers, rather than adding new roads. Transportation planners in Manhattan are putting that theory to the test by removing traffic from one of the city’s busiest stretches – Broadway at Times Square.

Wired magazine article features TSL member Warren Powell
A Wired magazine feature on the revolution in artificial intelligence included a piece on Warren Powell and his team of "algorithm geeks from Princeton University." Powell's team developed the Princeton Locomotive and Shop Management System, or PLASMA, for Norfolk Southern, using approximate dynamic programming to mimic the company's dispatch center. Well done, Warren!

New York Times Op-Ed Piece from TSL Member
TSL Member Ozlem Ergun and coauthor Julie Swann, associate professors of Industrial and Systems Engineering and co-directors of the Center for Health and Humanitarian Logistics at Georgia Tech, along with coauthor Reginald DesRoches, professor of civil and environmental engineering at Georgia Tech, recently contributed an editorial in the New York Times about the astonishing amount of debris still left in Haiti and the need for a plan for functional accessible infrastructure. Well worth a read!
