Content Features

INFORMS PubsOnLine offers several features to improve the viewing of online content and to facilitate finding articles of potential interest.

Content Box

The content box is the list of services and tools found in the middle column of an article view page. Here you will find:

  • article citation information
  • tools for this article (create an alert, download to your citation manager)
  • links to locate similar articles, other articles by the authors (first and last author), and articles citing this article
  • links to add citation to social bookmarking site

With JavaScript enabled, you can expand and collapse the content box headings. With cookies enabled, your previous selections for expanded and collapsed views will be save from session to session.

Rollover Abstracts

On Table of Contents and search results pages, the article abstract (when available) will pop up in an overlay when you mouse over any portion of the article citation.

Rollover References

In an article view, the complete article reference will pop up in an overlay when you mouse over the reference in the text.

Inline Figure Expansion

With JavaScript enabled you can expand a figure view within the article text.

Cited Reference Link Back to Text

The arrow at the beginning of each listed reference (in the References section of an article view) will jump to the first mention of that reference in the article text.

Data Supplements

Data supplements are online-only material provided by the authors as supplementary information to the published articles in INFORMS Journals. Data supplement file types may include images, movies, PDFs, HTML pages, audio files, spreadsheets, or word-processing documents. Links to data supplements can be found on Tables of Contents pages, search results pages, and in article views.

Cross-Journal Searching

INFORMS Pubs OnLine lets you search across multiple journals.

After performing a search in INFORMS Pubs OnLine, you can perform the same search in other journals through the "pulldown menu" at the top of the search result page entitled "Try this search in:..." Selecting a journal title and clicking the "Search" button will start a search using the previously specified criteria in the selected journal.

Alternatively, you can return to the search page and click the "Search multiple journals" link. You will go to a page where you can perform one search that will be applied to multiple online journals in a single step.

Inter-Journal Links

Move quickly and easily from articles to the full text of cited references using hyperlinks from reference citations to the articles to which they refer.

When an article in INFORMS Pubs OnLine cites an article from another HighWire-hosted journal, hyperlinks allow you to move from the original article to the abstract of the cited article. Likewise, links have been created to allow users of other HighWire-hosted journals to quickly and easily access INFORMS Pubs OnLine articles. List of Participating Journals

These inter-journal links take you to the abstract of the cited reference. Limited free access may be granted allowing you free use of the single article that was cited by the original article.

Download to Citation Manager

You can download article citations into your citation manager software from an article view or search results page. Follow the link to import the citation(s) into the program you use, or download the generic Medlars format. If the RefWorks site is unavailable, save the citation (the secondary link under the main RefWorks link) to import into RefWorks at a later time.

For questions or assistance with your citation manager program, please contact the support staff for your product directly (links go to external sites):

If your citation manager program is not listed on the download to citation manager page, please send us a message so that we may consider adding support for this program in the future.

RSS

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) provides an easy way for online readers to receive automatic updates from specified websites. You may configure your RSS-enabled web browser or aggregator to include INFORMS Journals, and automatic updates will be sent to you every time new content is posted online.

File Cabinet

The My File Cabinet feature allows you to save article citations and searches for future use. Within your File Cabinet, you can manage these items by creating new folders and moving or copying items to different locations to create topic-specific folders.

You can save citations from article views, and searches can be saved from the search results page.

Citation Map

Citation Map is a graphical representation of the articles citing or cited by your selected INFORMS Journals article. The map is based on the references found in the full text articles of HighWire-hosted journals. The initial number of citations viewed in the map is 10, but you can change this number if you desire.

Given a starting reference, Citation Map finds all articles related by citations either citing the article or cited by the article. The result set is expanded outward from the starting article to make a collection of all the articles related by citation to the starting article. By noting the number of times each article in the collection is cited, the related papers with the greatest impact are graphed, along with the citing/cited-by relations among the articles in the collection. This shows you the most important papers related to a starting article, as well as temporal and "line-of-cite" relationships between these articles.

Citation Map links are found in the Citing Articles section of the content box in an article view.

OpenURL

For institutional administrators only

If you have an OpenURL link resolver, such as SFX, you can create links back to your library holdings in the reference sections of INFORMS Journals articles. Such links help your patrons find the most appropriate copy of the article they are seeking at your institution.

You can set up your OpenURL configurations by signing in with your administrator user name and password.

For a complete explanation of what OpenURL is and why it is useful, see the article "Why OpenURL?" by Ann Apps and Ross MacIntyre, University of Manchester, in the May 2006 issue of D-Lib Magazine (Volume 12 Number 5, ISSN 1082-9873) http://www.dlib.org/dlib/may06/apps/05apps.html

Viewing Figures

Thumbnail Images:
A "thumbnail" – a small version – of each figure or equation appears in the text. In most cases, these thumbnails are sufficient to permit you to decide if you want to see the larger version(s).

Medium-Sized Images:
Clicking on a thumbnail opens a second window in your browser that displays a larger version of a table or figure, as well as the complete text of the figure's caption. You don't need any additional software to view this medium-size image.

Large, High-Resolution Images:
To view a high-resolution version of a figure, click on the medium-sized image or the link to "[View Larger Version of This Image]". Browsers can be used to view high-resolution images, but we recommend using a helper application instead. Read about obtaining and configuring a graphics viewer under the appropriate section: Macintosh, Windows, or Unix.

Printing

  • Articles: Print the "Reprint (PDF) Version of This Article" version for output that closely resembles the paper version of INFORMS Pubs OnLine.
  • Abstracts, tables of contents, search results: Use your browser's print function.
  • High-resolution figures: JPEGView for Macintosh or LViewPro for Windows.

Please see Help with Printing for more detailed information.
