INFORMS members Tony Cox, Peter Glynn and Andres Weintraub were among the 76 members and foreign associates recently elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). Election to the NAE is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to “engineering research, practice or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature,” and to the “pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education.”
Louis Anthony (Tony) Cox Jr., president, Cox Associates, Denver, was recognized for “applications of operations research and risk analysis to significant national problems.”
Peter W. Glynn, Thomas W. Ford Professor and chair, management science and engineering department, Stanford University, was recognized for “contributions to simulation methodology and stochastic modeling.”
Andrés Weintraub, professor, department of industrial engineering, University of Chile, Santiago, was recognized for “deployment of innovative decision support systems for natural and human resources in South America.”
