Michael H. Rothkopf is the new President of INFORMS. Dr. Rothkopf is an
expert in auctions who has served as a consultant on electricity auctions to
the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. [A photo of Prof.

] Dr. Rothkopf is a
professor at Rutgers University’s New Brunswick campus, where he is affiliated
with the Rutgers Center for Operations Research (RUTCOR), Rutgers Business
School, and the Rutgers Center for Research in Regulated Industries. His expertise
includes energy economics, models of markets and competitive bidding, and applications
of operations research. In addition to his
work with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Prof. Rothkopf has
consulted to the European Bank
for Reconstruction and Development; US WEST; Merrill Lynch; The Brattle Group;
Cambridge Energy Research Associates; the Analysis Group, Inc.; Bristol-Myers
Squibb; and the RAND Corporation. He
headed the Energy Analysis Program at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory before
moving to Rutgers in 1988. He has held positions at Shell Oil and Xerox PARC. During his many
years of service to INFORMS, Prof. Rothkopf has served in many roles, including
that of Editor-in-Chief of the society’s journal for practitioners, Interfaces.
Dr. Rothkopf has
published extensively. In August, 2003, he co-authored a paper published by the
New American Foundation entitled, “Interlicense
Competition: Spectrum Deregulation Without Confiscation or Giveaways.” He
has edited a handbook on public sector applications of operations research and
written over 30 papers that have appeared in archival journals dealing with
operations research. He has written more than a dozen papers that have appeared
in archival journals dealing with economics, engineering, marketing, medicine,
and management. Professor Rothkopf received his doctorate in operations research from
