Harvey Greenberg received his Ph.D. in Operations Research from The Johns Hopkins University in 1968. In 2008 he retired as Professor of Mathematics at University of Colorado at Denver with Affiliated Professorships in Computer Science and Engineering and in Preventive Medicine and Biometrics. He was the founding Director of the CU Center for Computational Biology.

During his nearly four decades in operations research, Dr. Greenberg has been in academia, government, and the private sector. In 2000 he was the first visitor to the Computer Science Research Institute of Sandia National Laboraties and continues to consult with their staff. He has published more than 100 articles and 10 books, and he has developed teaching materials for cooperative learning and for the web. He pioneered the interfaces of operations research and computer science, and he was the founding editor of INFORMS Journal on Computing. He serves on seven editorial boards and is very active in editing special issues for emerging theory and applications of operations research. He has received awards for research and for service. Most recently he received the Canadian Operational Research Society Harold Larnder Prize for having "achieved international distinction in Operational Research." Also, Dr. Greenberg was the first recipient of the INFORMS Computing Society Prize "for research excellence in the interfaces between operations research and computer science."
