PAUL A. JENSEN

After obtaining his Ph.D. in Operations Research in Industrial Engineering, at Johns Hopkins University in 1967, Paul Jensen came to the University of Texas to help establish the operations research program in Mechanical Engineering. He rose through the professorial ranks and now holds a Cullen Professorship (emeritus). He taught a variety of courses in operations research and industrial engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate level. In 1991 he received the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award from the University Graduate School. He held various Departmental administrative positions including Associate Chairman and Graduate Advisor.

His first major book co-authored with J. Wesley Barnes, Network Flow Programming, received the 1980 Book of the Year Award from the Institute of Industrial Engineers. It is recognized as a classic in the field of network optimization. In 1983 and 1985 he authored a pioneer package of operations research programs for microcomputers, Microsolve/Operations Research. The Students' Guide to Operations Research was published in 1986. The book Problems, Models and Methods of Operations Research co-authored with Jon Bard was published in 2003.

Dr. Jensen has been a contributor to the profession of Operations Research. He was the Contributed Papers Chairman for two national conventions, has been an invited speaker in a number of meetings, and served a three-year term on the Council of the Operations Research Society of America. He was the General Chairman of the fall 1997 meeting of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences held in Dallas, Texas. He is currently serving as Vice President for Meetings of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences.
