Dave Rogers
David Franklin Rogers is Associate Professor of Quantitative Analysis and Operations Management in the College of Business at the University of Cincinnati where he has been since 1985. He has a 1978 BS in Mathematics/General Business and a 1980 MBA in Quantitative Methods both from Murray State University, Murray, KY, and a 1986 PhD in Management – Quantitative Methods/Operations Management from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN. Since 1980, Professor Rogers has taught over 175 sections of a wide variety of courses to students of all levels including: introduction to operations research; mathematical and business statistics; introduction to operations management; linear & integer programming; nonlinear programming; stochastic modeling; case studies in management science; quantitative models in production systems; cellular manufacturing; clustering & aggregation analysis; decision analysis; calculus; and computer programming. He revived and was Director for the Master of Science in Business Administration – Quantitative Analysis program for seven years, has been Chair for 15 and served on 52 other Master of Science committees, and has been Chair for one and served on four other PhD committees. Professor Rogers was the recipient of the 2006 Michael Dean Excellence in Undergraduate Classroom Education and Learning award at the University of Cincinnati and has been recognized twice by the University of Cincinnati MBA association as Outstanding Professor. He has been a member of the INFORMS Forum on Education (INFORM-ED) since 1999 and began serving as Area Editor for Resource Reviews for INFORMS Transactions on Education in 2008.
Professor Rogers’ service activities have included many education-related efforts for the College of Business at the University of Cincinnati including work with the Link-to-Excellence Student Mentoring Program, the Student Grievance Review Committee, the Advisory Council for Master’s Programs, the Information Technology Advisory Committee, the Advisory Committee for the Management Development Center, Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity, and the university’s Academic Affairs Committee. He is the Founding Faculty Advisor for both the INFORMS Student Chapter and the Omega Rho International Honor Society Chapter and was Regional Director, Secretary, President, and is currently the Historian and Website Coordinator for Omega Rho. In 2000 the Association of College Honor Societies recognized Professor Rogers with one of five Certificates of Distinction for his work with Omega Rho. He has served as Faculty Advisor for the MBA Association, is former Chair of the Undergraduate Programs Committee, served as Senator for the Faculty Senate of the university, and is the Founder and Coordinator of the E. Leonard Arnoff Memorial Lecture on the Practice of Management Science.
Dr. Rogers has worked with several companies as a consultant through private contracts, contracts through the University of Cincinnati’s Center for Productivity Improvement, with master’s projects, and through the course “Case Studies in Management Science” where projects are designed with teams of students and Professor Rogers working closely with the client. These projects include the firms Kroger, Bethesda Hospital, Cinergy, Ahaus Tool & Engineering, Inc., CRA Solutions, LexisNexis, Merchants Cold Storage, Fifth Third Bank, FLAGGS USA, General Electric Aircraft Engines, Transfreight, Toyota Motors Manufacturing, Odor Management, Inc., and Landrum & Brown. He is a member of INFORMS and served on the Board for three years, as General Chair for the 1999 National Conference, Director for Division A (Chapters, Student Chapters, Fora), Chair for the Chapters Subcommittee, and President of the Cincinnati/Dayton Chapter for which its revival resulted in him receiving the INFORMS Moving Spirit Award. Professor Rogers has been Proceedings Coordinator and Chair of the Publications Committee for the Decision Sciences Institute. He was Cluster Leader and Program Chair for the Operations Research Division of the Institute of Industrial Engineers. He is a Life Member of the Production and Operations Management Society and Member of the Classification Society of North America, Sigma Xi, Pi Mu Epsilon, Beta Gamma Sigma, Alpha Chi, The Gamma Beta Phi Society, Purdue University Alumni Association, and Murray State University Alumni Association.
Professor Rogers’ current research interests are in operations research applied to complex management problems, supply chain network and inventory location modeling, cellular manufacturing systems, and portfolio optimization analysis. He has 22 publications including the outlets Operations Research, Journal of Operations Management, European Journal of Operational Research, Computers and Operations Research, International Journal of Operations Research, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Decision Sciences, International Journal of Production Research, Medical Decision Making, Planning, Design, and Analysis of Cellular Manufacturing Systems, and Cost Analysis Applications of Economics and Operations Research. Dr. Rogers has 27 professional presentations including a tutorial for the INFORMS National Conference, an educational seminar on cluster analysis for Cinergy, and a presentation on graduate education in business as Banquet Speaker for Pi Mu Epsilon at Murray State University. He has served on Editorial Advisory Boards for Computers and Operations Research, Production and Inventory Management Journal, International Journal of Operations and Quantitative Management, and The Journal of Engineering Valuation and Cost Analysis.
