JOHN F. RAFFENSPERGER

Dr John F. Raffensperger is a Senior Lecturer in Management Science, at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. He obtained a BS Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University, 1981, later attending the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business for an MBA (1991) and Ph.D. (1997). His research interests include optimization, risk analysis, logistics, scheduling, and combinatorial optimization. For the past eight years, he has focused on design and implementation of markets for the environment, especially water. He is interested in supply chains for water, food, and energy; ways to incentivize mitigation of hydrological damage through wetlands; using markets to reduce the environmental effects of urbanization and impervious cover, sediment runoff, stream capacity; methods to incentivize removal of impervious cover; and nutrition planning and the effect of diet on the environment.
