ABSTRACT
In this paper we present an overview of model management research. Our presentation is organized around the various tasks performed during the modeling lifecycle. We begin with a brief historical summary that documents the evolution of the scope of model management research-- from a narrow focus on insulating users from the physical aspects of model storage and processing to a broader view of assisting modelers throughout the modeling lifecyle. We then present an abbreviated analysis of the model management literature, focussing selectively on issues that currently are a major focus of research. We close with a discussion on the future research directions in model management.
