Editors Needed
OR/MS Tomorrow is the online student membership magazine for INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences). The biannual publication provides a look at operations research and management science through featured articles, interviews, student publications, relevant job listings, pertinent announcements, spotlights of both student chapters and subgroups within the national INFORMS organization, etc. It is an official online publication of INFORMS. OR/MS Tomorrow is looking to fill the positions of Co-Editor and Editorial Board Member. Each of these positions would give you the opportunity to both provide a significant service to our professional society and to gain valuable networking opportunities with OR/MS professionals.
In order to apply for any of these positions, you must be a student who is available for a minimum of one year (two years is preferable). Travel is also occasionally required for planning meetings; a small operating budget is provided by INFORMS for these expenses. There is also generally room in the budget to help with travel to the annual INFORMS conference. Please find specific requirements for each position listed below. If you are interested in applying, complete the application form and return by June 15th, 2012 to orms_tomorrow@mail.informs.org.
The responsibilities for each position are listed as follows:
Co-Editor:
- Determining the content of each OR/MS Tomorrow issue
- Soliciting articles/interviews from relevant sources
- Publishing (at least) two issues of OR/MS Tomorrow per academic year
- Interacting with members/staff of the national INFORMS community on behalf of OR/MS Tomorrow
- Being available for telephone conference calls, and travel to annual conference (supported by INFORMS)
Co-Editor/Webmaster:
- Determining layout and design of each issue
- Converting all material into html format
- Making changes after the final review
- Assisting co-editors where needed
Editorial Board Member:
- Reviewing (spelling and layout) each edition of OR/MS Tomorrow before it goes live
- Bringing forward any ideas you might have on interesting topics for OR/MS Tomorrow
- Reviewing a maximum of three papers for student paper competitions
