USF – UF Graduate Research Exchange Program

With the objective of generating interaction among student chapters and IE programs from different universities, INFORMS@USF launched this past spring the Graduate Research Exchange Program (GREP) in collaboration with the University of Florida (UF).

Petros Xanthopoulos (on the left in picture), a student member of the UF INFORMS student chapter, came to USF on March 19th and gave a talk about his research on applying data mining findings to biomedicine. A week later, on March 26th, Qingwei Li (on the right in picture), from the INFORMS@USF student chapter, went to UF at Gainesville and spoke about his research on developing “Decision Support for the Design of Fortified Distribution Networks”.

GREP provides a platform for graduate students to present their research to different audiences and to network with other students. The mechanism used to select the presenters consisted on one student chapter sending a list of potential presenters with their respective topics while the members of the other student chapter voted for the talk they deemed more appealing. So far, the chapter at USF has financed the program through a grant obtained from the USF Alumni Society. We have agreed to have at least one exchange each semester with UF.
