This study looks at battlefield attrition for those whose profession includes quantitative analyses of military and naval operations. The book survey approaches used for assessing casualties in simulated tactical engagements between general-purpose military forces in conventional air-ground operations. It discussed various modeling alternatives available to the OR worker and describes both detailed deterministic Lanchester-type models of attrition in tactical engagements and aggregated-force models based on index numbers.
