Best Publication Award Application Process

To be eligible for the award, the contribution (book, paper or set of papers) must meet the following criteria:

  • the contribution must be in Applied Probability;
  • the contribution must have been published (in the case of a set, at least one member of the set) in the open literature during the interval Jan. 1, 2004 - April 30, 2007;
  • the contribution must have been written in English, or must have accurate translation available in English;

The contribution will be judged according to:

  • The extent to which the contributions of the nominee advances the state of the art of applied probability,
  • the originality of the theory or methodology, or the degree to which it simplifies or unifies the existing theory or methodology,
  • the new areas of application it opens, and the clarity and excellence of exposition.
  • Nominations may be made by anyone, including the nominee.

The Committee will consist of three members of the Applied Probability Society. Copies of the nomination packet must be sent separately to each member of the nominating committee.

The Committee will use the following criteria in making judgments:

  • the extent to which the contributions of the nominee advances the state of the art of applied probability;
  • the originality of the ideas or methods and/or the degree to which existing theory or methods is unified or simplified;
  • the new areas of application it opens;
  • the clarity and excellence of exposition.

Nominations will be solicited in the Fall of the year preceding the year in which the award is to be made via notices in the Applied Probability Newsletter, OR/MS Today, personal contacts and any other means deemed necessary by the Committee. Nominations may be made by anyone, including the nominee.

Nominations consist of:

  • a detailed description of the contribution and its significance;
  • a copy of the nominated publication(s).

Nominations will be closed by June 30, 2007. Nominations are made to the Committee by forwarding the information to each member of the committee at the addresses list below.

The presentation of this Award will be made at the INFORMS meeting. The winner will be announced in both the Applied Probability Newsletter and OR/MS Today, and in any other medium deemed desirable by the committee.

The decision of the committee is final.
