Most Influential Paper Award Application Process

All papers published (in print) during the 12 month period preceding the annual INFORMS conference are eligible for nomination. Papers can be nominated by any BPM section member. Each member can nominate at most one paper. Papers that were nominated in a prior year cannot be nominated again. Nominations must be received at least one month before the annual INFORMS conference.

Nominations should explain why the nominee is deserving of the Most Influential Paper Award -- because of the anticipated impact of the nominated paper with regards to fundamental changes in the way research is approached, behavioral dynamics critical to the pursuit of future research are illuminated on, or existing assumptions established in past research (along with associated findings) are critically challenged. The nomination letter should not exceed two pages in length, and should be submitted to the section’s secretary (see http://service-sci.section.informs.org) prior to the nomination deadline. The letter should be in a suitable electronic form, for example pdf.

The section chair recruits 10 judges. These judges should be a reasonably representative sample of the BPM section, and include both junior and senior faculty. Judges select their top three papers from all nominations. Judges should form their opinion by selecting those papers that had the greatest impact on the trajectory of academic research in the area of behavioral studies in operations. {Scoring: A ranking of "top paper" earns a paper 3 points, a second place earns 2 points and a third place earns a paper 1 point. In the end, the paper scoring the most points wins the award.}

A list of all nominations is published on the section website, and all nominated papers will be included in the section’s body of knowledge. The top 5 papers, including the winning paper, are announced by the section chair during the section meeting at the INFORMS annual conference.
