INFORMS Transactions on Education

Special Issue dedicated to Memory of Paul A. Jensen

Paul A. Jensen was a member of the operations research and industrial engineering faculty at The University of Texas for over 35 years. During that time, he devoted much of his attention to developing computer-based tools to ease the learning curve for those wishing to solve problems arising in operations research. His Microsoft Excel addins have been employed by hundreds of thousands of users and are freely available at http://www.ormm.net. This special ITE issue is dedicated to highlighting uses of such tools in teaching, in developing and analyzing case studies, and in practice. Additional information can be found on the journal’s home page (http://ite.pubs.informs.org). Submission deadline is August 1, 2012.

This special issue, edited by Michael F. Gorman, University of Dayton, will publish studies focusing on the application of operations research techniques on freight transportation and logistics. Interfaces is soliciting papers that fall into one of these categories: an application with a verification letter from the organization using the results; a novel literature review of operations research related to freight transportation and logistics; a novel tutorial emphasizing the practical implementation of transportation and logistics systems. The INFORMS board approved the appointment of Srinivas Bollapragada as the Editor-in-Chief of Interfaces as of January 1, 2011. Srinivas is a principal scientist of operations research at the General Electric Global Research Center, Albany, NY, the winner of the 2008 INFORMS Prize. He has developed over 15 optimization based decision support systems that are currently in use across GE and has been a finalist for various INFORMS awards (Nicholson Prize, Edelman Award, Wagner Award – four times) and has served in several INFORMS committees.

He is founder of the INFORMS Revenue Management section, past President of the Atlanta INFORMS Chapter and has served as a mentor for the Georgia 100 program.
