Board Position Nominations for INFORMS Board of Directors Info Sheet

The INFORMS Board of Directors comprises 16 members: five officers, ten vice presidents, and the Executive Director (ex officio, non-voting). Volunteer members of the INFORMS Board of Directors are appointed through a nominations and elections process.

The position open is for 2025 President-Elect (3-year term - President-Elect, President and Past President). The election is planned for the August & September 2024 with the position starting on January 1, 2025. While each nominating committee is unique, committee members generally value individuals with strong ethical integrity; proven leadership qualities; effective communication skills; a commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion; and past volunteer service to INFORMS, with past board service being a plus. Please consider the above as you complete the expression of interest.

The time commitment below indicates activities.  During months without Board meetings, there may be occasional discussions and votes.

Time Commitment Brief Description of Responsibilities

Candidates for the President-Elect position must be members in good standing.

President-Elect: 3 Years (1 year as President-Elect; 1 year as President; 1 Year as Past President)

  • Monthly Executive Committee meetings (one hour/month)
  • Attend four Board meetings in a year (40 hours total, not counting preparation time)
  • Winter: 1/2 day (4 hours virtual)
  • Spring: 12 hours total -- 1/2 day (4 hours virtual) and full day (8 hours in person at Analytics Meeting)
  • Summer: 12 hours total - Three 1/2 days (4 hours virtual each day)
  • Fall: 12 hours total -- 1/2 day (4 hours virtual) and full day (8 hours in person at the Annual Meeting)
  • During the year of the presidency, attend biweekly meetings with the Executive Director of INFORMS.
  • Attend monthly meetings with Executive Director while President-Elect and Past-President.

During year of presidency:

  • Serves as the chief volunteer office of INFORMS during year of
    presidency.
  • Chairs Board meetings and is a voting member of the Board of Directors
  • Represents INFORMS during conferences sponsored by INFORMS and related organizations.

As President-Elect: Serves on the Nominating Committee; and acts as Board liaison to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.  

As Past President serves as Chair, Nominating Committee.

All three years:

  • Works closely with the INFORMS Executive Director to meet strategic goals and objectives. 
  • Works closely with the Board Services Administrator
  • All other duties as assigned from the Policies and Procedures Manual.

There are five Board members who have decided to serve a second term.  According to P&P 4.3, first term incumbents may be nominated without opposition for a second term for continuity and stability.  These individuals may run unopposed.  The positions of which the individual has decided to serve a second term are the: Treasurer, VP of Education, VP Technology Strategy, VP Meetings, and VP Publications.

Dates: Expressions of interest are due by January 17, 2024.  Nominations received after that date may be considered. The Nominating Committee will report its nominations on or before February 28, 2024.  If you are interested, complete your expression of interest form.
