Welcome to the
INFORMS Section
on
Energy, Natural Resources, and the Environment (ENRE)
OVERVIEW
The Section on Energy, Natural Resources, and the Environment (ENRE) pre-dates
the founding of INFORMS, having originated as a special interest group
(SIG) of the Operations Research Society of America. Starting as a SIG
on Energy Applications, the inter-relations between problems and systems
solutions in these areas led to a broadening of the scope of the SIG to
include issues relating to both renewable and non-renewable natural resources
and the environment, as well as energy. The Section sponsors and supports
a wide range of activities related to its interest areas, ranging from
a newsletter, sponsoring focused sessions at the national INFORMS meeting,
holding its own conferences and publishing their proceedings, as well as
this home page.
ENRE also serves as a focal point for networking for researchers and
practitioners working on issues and sub-issues in energy, natural resources,
and/or the environment. For example, under the umbrella of Natural Resources,
ENRE has an extremely strong and active Forestry group, while in the past,
the Energy group has sponsored its own conferences and proceedings.
ENRE's goals are to:
-
promote the development and application of operations research/management
science methods, techniques, and tools to the solution of problems relating
to energy, natural resources and/or the environment,
-
encourage the exchange of information among pratictioners and users in
energy, natural resources, and environmental applications areas,
-
promote the maintenance of high professional standards in the application
of operations research/management science to problem areas in energy, natural
resources and/or the environment.
We invite you to participate in the activities of the INFORMS Section on
Energy, Natural Resources, and the Environment by joining the section.
INFORMS members may join the section for an annual dues of $2.00, while
non-INFORMS members' dues are $4.00 per year (see below for details).
