Your membership magazine OR/MS Today is available online. This 17th annual special international issue once again turns the spotlight on interesting applications of operations research beyond the U.S. borders. This year's featured international applications range from the forests of Argentina to the farmlands of Bavaria in Germany, but the issue begins with a truly international and universal concern: public health, pandemics, and associated response logistics.

Analytics Certification Board (ACB)

The ACB met on April 1st immediately after the Analytics Conference to continue providing strategic direction and assistance to the CAP program. For a list of members of this prestigious board, click here. Note that both Analytics Conference keynote speakers Tom Davenport and Kathy Kilmer are members of the ACB.

CAP in the News

Tom Davenport, analytics guru, keynoter, and member of the ACB, posted a blog in the Wall Street Journal on the subject of the Certified Analytics Professional. For more on that blog, go to our website at www.informs.org and check the In the Media section. If you spot more CAP in the News articles, forward the link to certification@informs.org.

Computer-Based Testing Coming

The CAP exam will be delivered via computer in mid-2014. A chief advantage of this is that eligible candidates from all corners of the globe can test close to where they work or live - and on their own schedule. To find out if there's a location close to you, check this site www.kryteriononline.com. More details will be published on our website about this new testing venue and increased opportunity to become a CAP®.

In the meantime, paper and pencil tests are still available. INFORMS invites all members who wish to challenge and distinguish themselves to apply and sit for the INFORMS prestigious analytics certification exam at these scheduled locations:

April 29 - Lexington, VA (with the MORS EPD at the Virginia Military Institute)

May 17 - Baltimore, MD (at INFORMS headquarters on the campus of UMBC)

May 22 - Cincinnati, OH (at the University of Cincinnati Lindner College of Business)
June 21 - San Jose (at the INFORMS Big Data Conference)

Other venues are under consideration.

If you want CAP to come to your area, let us know - contact certification@informs.org. Remember, if you have 10 or more people testing from the same company, you can take advantage of discounted group rates.

Put CAP after your name. For more information, see www.informs.org/certification and apply today.

CAP Exam

Although the CAP program is not solely an exam, which was pointed out recently by Scott Nestler, Chair ACB during his presentation at the Analytics Conference, the exam does take a lot of attention. We are always in need of good questions that adhere to the framework job/task analysis at https://www.informs.org/Certification-Continuing-Ed/Analytics-Certification/Analytics-Job-Task-Analysis and are appropriate to the early to mid-career professional in analytics practice. If you can think of a good question with four possible answers of which only one is correct - and that you believe must be asked - feel free to send it to certification@informs.org

Submit Early - Capacity Is Limited!

Abstract Deadline: May 15

Abstracts received by May 15 will receive preference in scheduling. In recent years, the INFORMS Annual Meeting has grown significantly, making it difficult to accommodate all of the talks submitted. It may be necessary to accept submissions in the order in which they are received if there is not sufficient capacity to schedule all of the talks submitted by May 15. Therefore, we encourage you to submit early, well before the May 15 deadline.
