INFORMS notes with regret the passing of H. Newton Garber on February 7, 2014. Newt, who worked tirelessly for TIMS during his presidency and helped pioneer INFORMS in the years following the merger, was, in many ways, the father of CPMS's Franz Edelman competition, which he helped create and turn into an international event. He went on to judge 25 of the competitions. He was one of the founders of the Round Table, as well. The INFORMS board, administration, and members join in extending condolences to his widow, Joan. An obituary of Newton appears here.
Gartner is happy to provide INFORMS members a $300 discount to attend the Gartner and BI Analytics Summit 2014. INFORMS members must use priority code INFORMSBI when registering to receive this discount.
