Multiple Criteria Decision Making

Overview

The purpose of the Section on Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) is to promote and disseminate research and applications among academics and other professionals interested in theory, methodologies, and applications of MCDM.

The Section has an interdisciplinary and broad focus on different methodologies, such as multiple objective optimization (including Goal Programming and Evolutionary Multiobjective Optimization) and discrete choice problems (including Multi-Attribute Utility Theory-based methods, Outranking methods, and Optimization-based interactive methods), as well as the support for the decision maker and the decision making process in such problems with computer-based models.

Objectives:

The fundamental objectives of the community can be listed as:

  • Promoting multiple criteria in decision making,
  • Promoting the development and application of Operations Research methods, techniques and tools in the Multiple Criteria Decision Making area,
  • Encouraging the exchange of information among researchers and users in the areas of multiple criteria decision making, including such topics as analytical hierarchy processes, decision analysis, goal programming, multiobjective evolutionary algorithms, multiobjective mathematical programming, and outranking methods,
  • Encouraging interest by practitioners and students in the Multiple Criteria Decision Making area, and
  • Promoting the maintenance of high professional standards in the application of Management Sciences to the Multiple Criteria Decision Making area.

The MCDM Section was established in 2010, having had its roots in the International Society on Multiple Criteria Decision Making dating from 1975.

We invite all members of the Multiple Criteria Decision Making Community to become members of the INFORMS MCDM section. For details on how to become a member, please see the Membership page.
