CNA corporation job opening: Computer Science Research Analyst - Advanced Technology & Systems Analysis (L-2)

SUMMARY
CNA Advanced Technology and Systems Analysis is seeking candidates with advanced degrees in computer science and electrical engineering from the nation's leading academic programs for exciting career opportunities analyzing advanced military cyber warfare and communications technology applications and operational effectiveness for United States Navy and Department of Defense operations. CNA is a leader in maritime cyber and communications operations analyses and our analysts routinely go to sea onboard Navy ships to understand the operating environment , observe operations, and collect data. We seek innovative ways to improve the military's warfighting capabilities through novel applications of cutting edge technologies and we work with the government to assess the introduction of new technologies into the fleet. We help the government assess these systems by developing analytical models of system performance combining empirical data and theoretical calculations to predict the tactical effectiveness of new capabilities in order to support Department of Defense acquisition decisions. CNA is a world leader in military operations analysis from its pioneering research in the field during WWII to its current support to operations in Afghanistan and round the world. We are seeking creative problem solvers with a background in networks, including network architectures and network defense, and who experience working with empirical data sets. Exposure to satellite communications is a plus. Ability to obtain a SECRET clearances and eligibility for Top Secret Clearances is highly desired. A current TS/SCI is a plus. Successful candidates will have a strong research background in structuring and framing research problems, often independently selecting their thesis topics and research techniques and methodologies. PhDs are preferred, but exceptional MS candidates will receive strong consideration. Job Description Serve as an important contributing team member on projects or lead smaller/less complex activities. Demonstrate analytical competence.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop sound analytic frameworks and associated analytic methodologies/ techniques for addressing both structured and unstructured problems. Consistently produce high quality analysis.
  • Develop and maintain broad, general institutional knowledge of primary clients/sponsors; their culture, organization, and issues.
  • Support business development efforts and/or marketing activities by maintaining strong client relationships through high quality work, increasing the visibility of our work, and other related activities such as proposal preparation.
  • Interact with sponsors/clients under the supervision of an experienced colleague, and with study POCs independently.
  • Make significant contributions to research publications and analytic products for individual projects.
  • Communicate results of work in a clear and concise fashion. Effectively communicate one-on-one and in groups. Document work efficiently and accurately. Effectively present work to colleagues, sponsors, and small audiences that are familiar with content.
  • Work with minimal or no guidance on focused, well-structured pieces of projects. Work under closer supervision on more complex, less-structured tasks. Serve as task lead for pieces of projects by managing own activities. May lead small projects under the supervision of an RTL/CMD.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude in interactions with colleagues and clients/sponsors. Provide clear guidance to colleagues on tasks. Take responsibility for own actions and outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Minimum Master's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience, PhD preferred.
  • Experience: Typical minimum requirements Ph.D. & 0+ years or Master's & 2+ years of experience in research and analysis.
  • Skills: Ability to make significant contributions to projects/analyses; Strong analytic curiosity/ creativity; Ability to operate independently in the execution of assignments; Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment; Strong critical thinking skills; Knowledge of research techniques; Strong planning and organizational skills; Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; Ability to interact positively and somewhat independently with clients.
  • Other: Ability to obtain and maintain an Active Secret Security Clearance.
