CORS, INFORMS to host international conference

The Canadian Operational Research Society and INFORMS will host a joint international meeting on June 14-17 in Montreal. This conference will attract about 1,000 researchers and practitioners, with tracks on the full range of O.R. and analytics specialties.

The conference program will feature two plenary presentations. Matteo Fischetti, full professor of Operation Research at the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Padua, and Rüdiger Schultz, full professor for Discrete Mathematics and Optimization in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Duisburg-Essen, will headline the conference.

Fischetti received the “Best Ph.D. Dissertation on Transportation” prize awarded by the Operations Research Society of America and in 2008 he was part of the team receiving the “INFORMS Franz Edelman award” for the work “The New Dutch Timetable: The O.R. Revolution.” He is a member of the editorial board of the international journals Mathematical Programming Computation and Journal of Combinatorial Optimization. His research interests include mixed-integer programming, combinatorial optimization, vehicle routing and scheduling problems and polyhedral combinatorics. Fischetti has published more than 100 papers in international journals.

Rüdiger Schultz’ primary research interests are in optimization under uncertainty, discrete optimization, and in industrial applications of mathematical optimization. His research accomplishments include seminal work on structure, stability and algorithmic treatment of stochastic programs, in particular of models involving integer variables, risk aversion and, more recently, PDE constraints. He has made contributions to real-life applications of mathematical optimization in the power, natural gas and chemical processes industries. He has co-authored more than 100 scientific papers. Currently, Schultz is editor in chief of the journal Computational Management Science and area editor (linear and stochastic optimization) of Operations Research Letters. He serves as a member of the editorial boards of five other research journals in applied mathematics and operations research.

In addition to technical tracks, the program offers two receptions primarily focused on structured networking with regionally diverse colleagues and several competitions that showcase the fullest spectrum of O.R. and analytics research.

The conference will take place at Le Centre Sheraton Montreal Hotel in downtown Montreal. This hotel is situated in a prime location steps from world-class shopping, exquisite dining and the entertainment district of the city. There are many attractions and events to explore in this unique French-Canadian city, ranging from historical to contemporary.
