Topics:

  • Foundations of the Analytic Hierarchy Process
  • Comparison of Multicriteria Decision Theories
  • Development and Implementation of Artificial Intelligence Systems for Scheduling in Manufacturing and Health Sciences

Background:

  • M.S. in Mathematics/Operations Research, University of Granada (Spain), 1975
  • Ph.D. in Mathematics, University of Sevilla (Spain) 1977
  • Ph.D. in Social Systems Sciences and Operations Research, The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, 1979

Luis Vargas joined the faculty in 1979 following completion of his doctorate in social systems sciences at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Previously, he was a lecturer and research assistant at the University of Granada, and later, an assistant professor in the department of statistics and operations research at the University of Sevilla in Spain. He teaches in the quantitative methods and systems analysis areas. His main research interests are in the areas of decision theory - the analytic hierarchy process, artificial intelligence - design and optimization of Bayesian networks, and mathematical modeling - design and evaluation of scheduling policies in manufacturing and the health sciences.
