David B. Hertz

David Hertz was the 23rd President of ORSA and the 11th President of TIMS. He became a Professor at the University of Miami after having been a practicing lawyer and a Partner in McKinsey and Company and Arthur Anderson Company. David Hertz started his career as an academic. For a period he was Chairman of the Board of Prime Time magazine and a consultant to Channels magazine.

He is perhaps best known to the O.R. community for his perceptive work on risk analysis, including introducing the use of Monte Carlo Simulation. His earliest publications added insights to the industrial process of research and development. He developed innovative modeling approaches for the solution of complex management issues.

He is the author/editor of several books including, The Expert Executive: Using AI and Marketing, Production and Strategy (1987), Statistical Decision: Part II and Part III, Proceedings of the Fourth International Conference on Operational Research with Melese (1969), New Power for Management: Computer Systems & Management Science (1969) and Investment Policies the Pay Off (1968), Progress in Operations Research, Volumes I and II (1964).

David Hertz passed away on June 13, 2011 in Miami, Florida at age 92.
