This year, the emphasis of the school is on "Numerical Linear Algebra and
Its Applications". The school is addressed to graduate students, PhD students,
young researchers in different scientific disciplines (Mathematics, Statistics,
Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, ...).
The school consists of 5 short courses taught by:
Gene H. Golub, Stanford University, USA,
Iterative methods for solving linear systems (5 hours)
Lars Elden, University of Linkoping, Sweden,
Linear Algebra in Data Mining, (5 hours)
Dario A. Bini, University of Pisa, Italy, and
Marc Van Barel, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium,
Linear algebra tools for Markov chains, problems and algorithms (8 hours)
Zdenek Strakos, Academy of Sciences, Czech Republic,
Krylov subspace methods (5 hours)
Sabine Van Huffel, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium,
Linear algebra in computional biosignal processing (5 hours)
During the school, seminars will be given by Michael Ng, Owe Axelsson,
Valeria Simoncini, Luca Gemignani, Stefano Serra-Capizzano, Beatrice Meini,
Daniele Bertaccini.
The week after the school, an international workshop on Numerical Linear
Algebra and Its Applications will take place in the same hotel Porto Giardino,
Monopoli, Bari, Italy,September 22-24, 2003.
