A staggering 80 per cent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions are linked to just 57 companies, according to Carbon Majors Database. Among those, ExxonMobil is the world’s biggest investor-owned contributor. Shell is the second. Both have attracted vocal criticism from activists, while their environmental record and their historical stance on climate change have been the subject of several court cases.
