A Boost for Urban Sustainability: Optimizing Electric Transit Bus Networks in Rotterdam

2020 Daniel H. Wagner Finalist In accordance with the emerging global sustainability goals, the Dutch government declared in 2016 that all diesel transit bus networks should be electrified by 2025. Since then, our research team from Rotterdam School of Management has been collaborating with RET, the public transport operator in the city of Rotterdam, to smoothen and optimize this complex transition. Being involved with RET throughout the whole process starting from initial planning to successful implementation, we present the essential lessons learned and practical implications from the project.
