As a small country, The Netherlands are always happy to host great events. The eighteenth EURO
conference is to be held in our mainport Rotterdam. The city of Rotterdam is a perfect place to be at a
summer conference in the year 2001. With its moderate climate and many cultural activities as Europe's
Cultural Capital in 2001, it gives many opportunities for leisure. For the operational researcher, the mainport
of Rotterdam is an important source of inspiration of interesting (logistic) business cases.
One topic that the conference will pay extra attention to is Smart Logistics. OR models can be
used to provide smart decision support for logistic processes. New developments in Information &
Communication Technology are creating new possibilities to make this happen. During the conference, the
actual implementation of such can be experienced during company visits.
