Most medical devices do not hit the market through rigorous safety testing but by being deemed similar enough to something already approved—the “predicate” device through a mechanism known as the FDA’s 510(k) pathway. But similar is not a synonym for safe. While the assumption may be that substantial equivalence is a reasonable stand-in for a safety review, a share of devices cleared with this method still get recalled, and the FDA spends valuable time reviewing devices the same way, regardless of how risky it is on paper.

BALTIMORE, MD, March 8, 2023 – The U.S. government has mandated disclosure labels on all foods that contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Previous studies based on surveys or lab experiments suggested that hypothetical GMO labeling would result in a significant reduction in demand for GMO products, leading to concerns that the recent mandates for GMO labeling could severely hurt GMO product sales.

Just as in 2021, most European consulting firms did very well last year, with over 80% generating more profit in 2022 than in the previous year. When 29 consulting firms were asked what types of projects they had carried out, sales & operations planning (S&OP) scored the highest, followed by supply chain strategy projects and network optimization projects. Notably, there were several acquisitions in the consulting market over the past year, plus various proprietary software applications have been developed. All of these changes are visualized in the tenth edition of the SCM Consulting Subway Map of Europe.
