Anna Nagurney Honored with 2025 INFORMS President’s Award

Trailblazing educator, pioneering researcher, and global leader recognized for advancing operations research and analytics for the public good

BALTIMORE, Oct. 1, 2025 – INFORMS, the leading international association for operations research and analytics professionals, has named Anna Nagurney, the Eugene M. Isenberg Chair in Integrative Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, as the recipient of the 2025 INFORMS President’s Award.

A renowned scholar, educator and advocate, Nagurney is recognized for her pioneering research in supply chain and transportation networks, her leadership in advancing women in operations research and management science (OR/MS) and her commitment to applying analytical methods for societal benefit. She currently directs the Doctoral Program in Operations Management at the UMass Isenberg School of Management and serves as co-chair of the Board of Directors at the Kyiv School of Economics.

The President’s Award, one of INFORMS’ most prestigious honors, celebrates individuals whose work demonstrates the transformative power of OR/MS to improve lives locally, nationally, and globally.

“Anna Nagurney’s scholarship, mentorship, and leadership have left an indelible mark on our profession,” said David Hunt, 2025 president of INFORMS. “Her research has shaped solutions to critical societal challenges, from medical supply chains and sustainability to financial systems and disaster preparedness. Equally important, she has inspired and championed future generations of OR/MS leaders. She is a most deserving recipient of the INFORMS President’s Award.”

Over her prolific career, Nagurney has authored or co-authored 16 books, 50 book chapters, and more than 230 refereed journal articles. Her work has influenced urgent areas such as perishable medical product logistics, network disruption management, sustainable operations and emergency preparedness.

Nagurney has also been a steadfast mentor and ambassador for the field. Since 2004, she has served as faculty advisor to the University of Massachusetts INFORMS Student Chapter — one of the organization’s most active. She has chaired 23 doctoral dissertations and continues to cultivate the next generation of researchers and practitioners.

Beyond academia, Nagurney is a global voice for OR/MS, frequently delivering keynote addresses, contributing to major media outlets, and representing the field worldwide. Her long record of recognition includes the INFORMS WORMS Award for the Advancement of Women in OR/MS (2007) and election as an INFORMS Fellow (2013).
