Sheldon H. Jacobson Awarded 2023 INFORMS President’s Award

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Professor Recognized for his Important Contributions to the Welfare of Society

 

BALTIMORE, MD, October 12, 2023 – Sheldon H. Jacobson, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, has been awarded the 2023 INFORMS President’s Award for his significant work in advancing the field of operations research (O.R.) through his research contributions focusing on homeland security, healthcare and public health, and his influential thought leadership in communicating and engaging with the general public and government officials.

Jacobson has exuded exceptional service to INFORMS and the broader O.R. community. Notable service contributions include serving as a program director at the National Science Foundation (2012-2014) and on committees for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. He has served in numerous roles within INFORMS for more than three decades. He served as the general chair of the 2022 INFORMS Annual Meeting in Indianapolis and served as treasurer on the INFORMS Board of Directors (2015-2016) as well as on numerous INFORMS committees.

Jacobson is Founder Professor of Computer Science, director of the Simulation and Optimization Laboratory and founding director of both the Bedtime Research Institute and Institute of Computational Redistricting at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
