Four INFORMS Members Elected to the National Academy of Engineering

The Ohio State University’s Antonio Conejo, Le Moyne College’s Martha Grabowski, Georgia Institute of Technology’s Patricia Mokhtarian and University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Stephen Wright are Among More than 100 Newly Elected 2024 National Academy of Engineering Members

BALTIMORE, MD, March 25, 2024 – Four INFORMS members have been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). Antonio Conejo is a professor in integrated systems engineering at The Ohio State University. Martha Grabowski is the McDevitt Distinguished Chair in Information Systems, Information Systems Program Director and professor of information systems in the Madden College of Business and Economics at Le Moyne College. Patricia Mokhtarian is a Clifford and William Greene Jr. Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Stephen Wright is a George B. Dantzig Professor of computer sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Election to the NAE is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to “engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature” and “the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education.”

Conejo is recognized for his work in power systems planning and electricity markets. Grabowski is recognized for engineering information systems that promote transportation safety, and for national leadership in marine transportation policy. Mokhtarian is being recognized for improved transportation systems planning and practice through quantifying human behavior. Wright is recognized for his theory and design of optimization algorithms and their application in signal processing and machine learning.

Election of new NAE members is the culmination of a yearlong process. The newly elected class will be formally inducted at NAE’s Annual Meeting on Sept. 29, 2024.
