Turning Strategic Ideas into Meaningful Impact

The INFORMS Strategic Initiative Program provides a structured pathway for bringing forward significant ideas that can advance INFORMS’ strategic priorities and create lasting value for the organization, our members, the profession, and the broader community.

Through the program, promising ideas are evaluated for their strategic alignment, potential impact, feasibility, and long-term value, with selected initiatives considered for investment and implementation.

Who can submit a strategic initiative?

The Strategic Initiative Program is an INFORMS-wide opportunity, and members are encouraged to learn about the program and help identify opportunities that could advance the organization’s strategic priorities.

Strategic Initiative proposals may be submitted by:

  • INFORMS staff
  • INFORMS volunteers

Members who have an idea for a potential strategic initiative are encouraged to connect with an appropriate INFORMS volunteer leader or staff member to explore the opportunity.

How the process works

The process begins with a brief initial application designed to introduce the proposed initiative and provide the information needed for an initial review.

  1. Submit an Initial Application
    Eligible applicants begin by providing an overview of the proposed initiative, its strategic value, and its anticipated impact.
  2. Initial Review
    Initial applications are reviewed by the Strategic Planning Committee Co-Chairs.
  3. Invitation to Submit a Full Application
    Applicants whose ideas are selected to move forward will be invited to complete a full application, providing additional information about the proposed initiative.
  4. Strategic Planning Committee Review
    Full proposals are evaluated by the Strategic Planning Committee based on established criteria, including strategic alignment, impact, feasibility, and long-term value.
  5. Recommendation to the Board
    The Strategic Planning Committee may prioritize initiatives and recommend them to the INFORMS Board of Directors for consideration.
  6. Board Approval
    All funding commitments made through the Strategic Initiative Program require approval by the INFORMS Board of Directors.
