INFORMS Announces Details for its 2014 Annual Meeting in San Francisco

CATONSVILLE, MD, October 7, 2014 – INFORMS today announced the first details of its 2014 Annual Meeting, including an impressive line-up of top operations research, analytics and Big Data speakers from academia, industry and government; industry case studies to be presented on numerous topics; a local Job Fair for both employers and job seekers; and a number of important networking sessions.

The INFORMS Annual Event provides real-world examples and methodologies for moving from data discovery to ROI and real business value. It features presentations on real-world applications of big data and analytics, presented by global industry and university leaders, including: Google, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, KidRisk, FICO, SAS, Stanford, MIT, Columbia University and more. Workshops held during the INFORMS event provide attendees with greater insight into new approaches to using data to solve real business problems, across multiple industries.  

The INFORMS 2014 Annual Event will be held November 9th through 12th, 2014 at the Hilton, Union Square in San Francisco, California.

“The field of operations research and analytics continues to make great strides toward applying advanced analytical methods to help make better decisions that result in real, measureable outcomes for businesses, government and academic organizations alike,” said Candace Yano, conference co-chairwoman and professor in the department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research in the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. “The INFORMS Annual Meeting helps to bridge the gap between data discovery and real business outcomes, giving attendees a firsthand look at new ways data can enhance business processes and our everyday lives.”  

Conference Program

The three-day event will feature numerous sessions, including signature event keynotes by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, Google, Stanford, MIT and more. The current line-up of presenters includes:

  • Keynote: Polio Eradicators use Integrated Analytical Models to Make Better Decisions, presented by Kid Risk, Inc and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  • Panel discussion: MOOCs: Just a Fad or Here to Stay?, presented by professors from  Columbia University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • Keynote: IFORS Credit Where Credit is Due: Lessons for O.R. Modelling from the Global Financial Crisis, presented by professors from the University of Southampton
  • Keynote: The Google Driverless Car, presented by Google

The INFORMS 2014 Annual Meeting show floor will also showcase offerings from dozens of exhibitors who will have the opportunity to reach analytic/quantitative professionals and key decision-makers who influence the buying decisions of major corporations.
