GE Research VP William Ruh to Explore Rapid Growth of Industrial Internet of Things at INFORMS Analytics, Big Data Conference

CATONSVILLE, MD, March 24, 2015 – The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS®), the leading international association for professionals in advanced analytics and operations research, announced today that Bill Ruh, Vice President of GE Software, will deliver a keynote on Monday, April 13 at its annual business analytics conference in Huntington Beach, CA.

Expected to draw nearly 1,000 attendees from around the United States and globally, the 2015 INFORMS Conference on Business Analytics & Operations Research will be held at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa from April 12-14 and feature keynote presentations and panel discussions from numerous leading companies.

In his keynote, Mr. Ruh will explore the growing importance of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT), and how it will impact the face of manufacturing in the decade ahead.

A major source of scale advantage and cost savings is being derived from a new wave of industrial-strength applications and asset performance management services that harness streams of performance data generated by machines connected to one another, and people, in the cloud.

“To fully appreciate the potential impact of the application economy, it is important to consider how large the ‘Industrial Internet of Things’ will become,” says Ruh. One consulting group estimates that by 2025 there will be 17 billion connected industrial assets.

Airlines, railroads, hospitals and utilities will be major beneficiaries of industrial-strength technology to move jet engines, locomotives and gas turbines closer to “no unplanned downtime”. It will enable enhanced asset reliability by optimizing inspection, maintenance and repair processes. It will improve operational efficiency at the level of fleets.

Mr. Ruh’s talk will explore the emerging waves of industrial-strength innovation and technology, opportunities for big gains in productivity and efficiency by reducing unplanned downtime, and GE’s strategic decision to focus on software and analytics-based services.

Throughout the 2015 INFORMS Conference on Business Analytics & Operations Research, attendees will hear from analytics leaders from established organizations and exciting new start-ups about how companies are leveraging advanced analytics to drive their businesses.

Attendees will also gain key insights from prominent industry experts to help them drive better business decisions and outcomes.
