The Chicago TIMS-ORSA Meeting on April 30 - May 2, 1975, was the site of the first presentation of the TIMS-ORSA John von Neumann Theory Prize. The distinguished recipient of this first award was George B. Dantzig of Stanford University, for his work on linear programming. Appropriate to the occasion in accepting the prize, Dr. Dantzig told several anecdotes of his personal acquaintance with John von Neumann.
